Victory Medal 1914-18

Awarded to Henry Ebenezer Mottram (1886-1968). Obverse: Winged Victory standing (front), a palm branch in her right hand, her left arm outstretched. Reverse: Within a laurel garland, Inscription: 'THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION. 1914-1919'. Inscription on edge: 'M.B.285 H.E. MOTTRAM.C.M.M. R.N.V.R.' Fitted with a ring and watered silk ribbon of rainbow hues.

Henry Ebenezer Mottram joined the Royal Navy on 18 July 1905 as a Stoker 2nd class. He was rated Stoker 1st Class from 16 December 1905 but was invalided out of the Navy on 10 December 1908 due to an ear infection. Subsequently, he joined the RNVR (RN Motor Boat Reserve) on 15 Feb 1915 as Chief Motor Boatman. He was promoted Chief Motor Mechanic on 1 Aug 1916 and was demobilised 27 Feb 1919. Before and after his naval service he worked as a chauffeur.
