British War Medal 1914-18

Awarded to S P O Charles Trusler RN (1894-1966). Obverse: Head of King George V (left). Legend: 'GEORGIVS V BRITT : OMN : REX ET IND : IMP:' Reverse: A Knight on horseback (right) a short sword in his right hand, trampling on the German shield, skull and cross-bones. Legend: '1914-18': Engraved on the edge: 'K.16156, C.TRUSLER, L.STO.R.N.' Fitted with a bar and orange watered silk ribbon edged with blue, black and white stripes. Mounted on a bar with seven others.

Charles Trusler was a Petty Officer in the Royal Navy who served in both the First and Second World Wars. He served in HMS 'Hindustan' for most of the Great War. She was attached to the 3rd Battle Squadron based in turn at Rosyth, Portland and Sheerness. His medals indicate that he served in both the Atlantic and off North Africa during the Second World War in HMS 'Danae' and 'Argus'. He left the Royal Navy at the end of World War II and died in 1966.
