Plate

A white glazed porcelain plate from the Russian Imperial yacht 'Standart' 1896. It has the printed royal monogram 'A' with a crown above in Cyrillic alphabet in blue - the royal monogram of Alexander II (1818-1881) Emperor of Russia. On the opposite side of the rim is the inscription: 'TSARUNA' (of the Tzar). There is a blue band around the rim with two gilt inner lines. On the base is the crowned date and initial 'N 1908' refering to Nicholas II (1868-1918). This is possibly a replacement plate for an earlier service. The plate was brought to Great Britain by Stanislaus Niewerowski, who commanded the imperial yacht from 1895-1914.
