Atlantic Star
A six pointed star, uniface, surmounted by a circular band crowned containing within it the Royal monogram 'G.R.I. VI.' Legend: 'THE ATLANTIC STAR'. Fitted with a ring and blue and pale green shot silk ribbon. Awarded to Charles George Wilkinson (1916-90), Seaman Merchant Navy.
Charles George Wilkinson was born in Barking, the son of of Charles Alfred Wilkinson and Margaret Ethel (formerly Fiddy) . Active during the Second World War. He assisted in refuelling ships during the invasion of Madagascar from the oil tanker 'Easdale'. He is recorded as a crew member of 'Empire Energy' (Ministry of War Transport). on a voyage from Middlesbrough to New York in 1941.
He married Irene Hardy in 1941 at Middlesbrough.
