British War Medal 1914-18
Awarded to Charles A. Wilkinson (army). Obverse: Obverse: Winged Victory standing (front), a palm branch in her right hand, her left arm outstretched. Reverse: Within a laurel garland, Inscription: 'THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION. 1914-1919'. Inscription on edge: '38525 PTE C.A. WILKINSON. THE QUEEN'S R.'
Charles Alfred Wilkinson (1895-1922) was born in Limehouse, his family later settling in Barking, Essex. In1915 he married Margaret Ethel Fiddy in St Albans. He joined the RAF on 3 June 1912 and during World War I, he also served in the Essex Regiment, the Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment and the Labour Corps, being discharged on 27 February 1919. In 1921 he was working for a local company, refining precious metals. Charles George Wilkinson (1916-90) was his son.
