Victory Medal 1914-18
Awarded to Captain Geoge Edward Wright (1889-1961). Obverse: Winged Victory standing (front), a palm branch in her right hand, her left arm outstretched. Reverse: Within a laurel garland, Inscription: 'THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION. 1914-1919'. Inscription on edge: 'CAPT. G.E. WRIGHT R.A.F.' Fitted with a ring and watered silk ribbon of rainbow hues.
George Edward Wright was born in Ham, Surrey in 1889, the son of a stationer. During World War I he was a lieutenant in the Army Service Corps before joining the RAF in 1918. He was attached to the anti-submarine unit - Squadron 255, at Bembridge, Isle of Wight and to 250 Squadron, which was based at Bristol conducting coastal reconnaissance over the Bristol Channel. He also carried out administrative duties at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich. Wright was demobilized in May 1919. In 1939 he was working as a sales manager in Epsom and Ewell and married to Sarah Ann.
