First Class Dining Saloon on the 'Aquitania' (1914)
Interior of the passenger liner 'Aquitania' (1914). The First Class Dining Saloon (Louis XVI Restaurant), on the Upper Deck (D Deck). A view of the central area, looking forward.
The design of the interiors on the 'Aquitania' was largely the work of Arthur Joseph Davis (1878-1951) of the architects Mewès & Davis, London. The First Class Dining Saloon was decorated in the Neoclassical style. The work was carried out by P. H. Rémon & Sons, Paris. Along the centre line were elaborate lamps and tables for the display of fancy desserts and pastries. The design of the wrought iron balustrade around the well incorporated monograms representing the Cunard Line and the name of the ship. See negative G10838 for a close-up photograph of the ceiling painting.
