Military Medal 1916-1930

Military Medal awarded to Leading Seaman Arthur Robert Blore, Anson Battlion, Royal Naval Division.

Arthur Robert Blore was born in 1890 and entered Collingwood Battalion, RND at the beginning of World War I. He transferred to the Anson Battalion and served at Cape Helles, Gallipoli in 1915. He was promoted to Acting Petty Officer and returned to the Western Front taking part in the third stage of the British offensive, 2 September 1918. He was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in 1918. CPO Blore died in 1947.

Blore was awarded the only Conspicuous Gallantry Medal and bar ever awarded for services in Gallipoli in 1915 and Prouville France 1918. The Military Medal was gazetted in the ‘London Gazette’ 14 May 1919 (General Citation).

On the obverse of the medal is the bust of George V and the legend ‘GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REG: ET IND: IMP’. On the reverse of the medal is the inscription: ‘FOR BRAVERY IN THE FIELD’ below a crown and royal cipher and within a wreath. It is fitted with a cusped bar and a white ribbon edged with blue and with two maroon stripes. The edge of the medal is inscribed, ‘LS-3146 C.P.O.A.R.BLORE C.G.M. ANSON BN:R.N.V.R.’ The ribbon was replaced in 1975 and the original ribbon retained.
