First Class Dining Saloon on the 'Aquitania' (1914)
Interior of the passenger liner 'Aquitania' (1914) showing the central area of the First Class Dining Saloon (Louis XVI Restaurant), on the Upper Deck (D Deck), a view looking forward.
The Dining Saloon is decorated in the Etruscan style, a type of delicate, painted Neo-classical decoration, derived mainly from the shapes, motifs and colours of antique vases. The painted ceiling representing 'The Triumph of Flora' is visible. A well established iconographic theme, the Triumph of Flora is a celebration of spring and the renewal of floral life. Flora is seated on a cloud with Pomona and Ceres by her side.
The decoration of the First Class Dining Saloon was carried out by P. H. Rémon & Sons, Paris.
