Passenger elevators in the Grand Entrance on the 'Aquitania' (1914)
Interior of the passenger liner 'Aquitania' (1914) showing the passenger elevators in the Grand Entrance at Promenade Deck (A Deck) level, with the gates on the port side (nearest to the camera) open; the overhead sign has not yet been fitted. The ship’s initial ‘A’ on the doors of the elevators is reminiscent of Louis XV’s monogram, the interlaced Ls.
The elevators were manufactured by Smith, Major and Stevens Ltd, Northampton; the decoration of the Grand Entrance was carried out by Marcel Boulanger, Paris.
