Awarded to Vice-Adm Robert Don Oliver (1895-1980). Obverse: Head of King Gustav V (left). Legend: 'GUSTAVUS.V.SVEC.GOTH.VAND.REX.' Reverse, legend: 'SUI . MEMORES . ALIOS . FECERE . MERENDO.' (Those who made others mindful of them by deserving it-Virgil). Inscription: 'LIEUTENANT R. D. OLIVER.' Suspended by a crown and acanthus leaves from a blue ribbon with a yellow stripe near each edge. Mounted on a bar with nine others. One of five awarded to personnel of HMS 'Telemachus' for saving the lives of the commander and crew of the Swedish sailing vessel 'Esmeralda' 13 October 1917 after she had been set on fire by a German submarine in the North Sea [information Brian Simpkin Dix Noonan Webb].
