Distinguished Service Cross 1936-47
Distinguished Service Cross awarded to Captain Wilfred James Cameron Robertson (1902-51). The ‘London Gazette’ citation reads as follows: ‘For mastery, determination and skill in action against the German battleship ‘Bismarck’’. Robertson served as Operations Officer on the battleship HMS ‘King George V’ and in company with the Chief of Staff Commodore Brind attended the briefings with Admiral Sir John Tovey on strategy and manoeuvres.
The medal is in the form of a plain silver cross pattee, convexed. In the centre of the obverse is the Royal Cypher and on the reverse is inscribed the date, ‘1941’. It is suspended from a blue ribbon with a central white stripe and mounted on a bar with five others:
British War Medal 1914-18 (MED2087), Victory Medal 1914-18 (MED2088), 1939-45 Star (MED2089), Atlantic Star (MED2090) and War Medal 1939-45 (MD2091).
