Victory Medal 1914-18

Awarded to Captain Wilfred James Cameron Robertson (1902-51). Obverse: Winged Victory standing (front), a palm branch in her right hand, her left arm outstretched. Reverse: Within a laurel garland, Inscription: 'THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION. 1914-1919'. Inscription on edge: 'MID. W.J.C. ROBERTSON. R.N.' Fitted with a bar and orange watered silk ribbon edged with blue, black and white stripes. Mounted on a bar with five others.

Robertson was born in Calcutta. He joined the Royal Navy on 15 January 1916 but was not commissioned lieutenant until after the end of the war on 15 June 1924. He held the final rank of Captain from 30 June 1942, and retired on 31 March 1951 shortly before his death. Robertson was Operations Officer on HMS 'King George V' during the pursuit of 'Bismarck' in May 1941.
