Prize medal, Stoke on Trent Association of Engineers
Awarded to Sir Harold Spencer Jones. Obverse: A representation in plan of a Supermarine Spitfire aircraft the forepart of which is superimposed on a cloud, a six pointed star each side and a laurel wreath below ties by a Staffordshire Knot. Legend: REGINALD MITCHELL MEMORIAL LECTURE". Reverse Legend: "STOKE ON TRENT ASSOCIATION OF ENGINEERS". Inscription: "1950 SIR HAROLD SPENCER JONES F.R.S."In fitted case of issue. Reginald Joseph Mitchell (1895-1937) was an aeronautical engineer who designed the Supermarine Spitfire. He was a student member of the Stoke on Trent Association of Engineers. The Association was formed in 1914 to further the aims of engineering. Each year a notable engineer or scientist is invited to present the Reginald Mitchell Memorial lecture a prestigious event hosted by the Lord Mayor and City of Stoke-on-Trent.
