Victory Medal 1914-18
Awarded to Admiral of the Fleet Lord John Tovey (1885-1971), 1st Baron Tovey of Langton Matravers (1885-1971). Obverse: Winged Victory standing (front), a palm branch in her right hand, her left arm outstretched. Reverse: Within a laurel garland, Inscription: 'THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION. 1914-1919'. Fitted with a ring and watered silk ribbon of rainbow hues.
During World War I, Tovey commanded the destroyer HMS 'Jackal' at the Battle of Dogger Bank, HMS 'Onslow' at the Battle of Jutland and 'Ursa' at the Battle of Heligoland Bight.
