Awarded to Rear-Admiral William Blewett Fawckner (1858-1918). Obverse: A five pointed star. Within a band, head of the Sphinx, three pyramids in the background. Legend: 'EGYPT 1884-6'. Below: 'Khedive of Egypt' (in Arabic letters). Reverse: the monogram of the Khedive, a crown above. No date. Awarded by the Khedive to all those who received the Egypt Medal. Fitted with a ring and bar, with floral scroll and a crescent and star in relief upon it, and blue ribbon. Mounted on a bar with three other medals.

William Blewett Fawckner was born in Plymouth, the son of William Fawckner, Master RN. He entered the navy as a ‘Britannia’ navigating cadet on the 5 January 1871 and was appointed lieutenant the following year when serving in ‘Foam’. In ‘Sphinx’, he served as Assistant Harbour Master at Suakin during the operations in the Eastern Sudan 1884-5 and was mentioned in dispatches. He served in ‘Gibraltar’ on a trooping voyage from Hong Kong and was promoted commander when she returned to Gibraltar. When in ‘Glory’ on the China Station in 1902, he reached the rank of captain. He was the Assistant Harbour Master in Devonport from March 1903 to March 1904. Subsequent commands included ‘Iphigenia’, ‘Cressy’, Prince of Wales’ and ‘Venerable’. He was then Captain of the Dockyard at Portsmouth from March 1909 to 1 February 1912.
He retired with the rank of rear-admiral in 1912 but was recalled in 1915 and promoted vice-admiral in 1917. He was appointed Nautical Assessor to the House of Lords 1920-1922.
Fawckner married Gertrude Shuttleworth on 9 September 1893 in London. He died in Crowthorne, Berkshire aged 87.
