Khedive's Star For The Egypt War 1882
Awarded to Admiral Sir Lewis Bayly. Obverse: A five pointed star. Within a band, head of the Sphinx, three pyramids in the background. Legend: 'EGYPT'. Below: 'Khedive of Egypt' (in Arabic letters). Reverse: the monogram of the Khedive, a crown above.'1882'. Awarded by the Khedive to all those who received the Egypt Medal. Fitted with a ring and bar, with floral scroll and a crescent and star in relief upon it, and blue ribbon.
Bayly served in HMS 'Agincourt' in 1882 during the campaign in Egypt. 'Agincourt' and 'Northumberland' were detached from the Channel Squadron to carry troops to reinforce British forces in Alexandria. 'Agincourt' took on board troops from the 3rd Batallion of the 60th Rifles at Cyprus and landed them at Alexandria on July 17th 1882.
