Awarded to Admiral of the Fleet Sir Frederick Charles Doveton Sturdee (1859-1925). Obverse: Busts of King George V and Queen Mary (left). Reverse: Royal cypher 'G.R.V.' surmounted by an Imperial Crown. Below: '22 JUNE 1911'. Suspended from a blue ribbon with two central red stripes.. Rear-Admiral Sturdee was President of the Submarine Committee of the Admiralty in early 1911. In December that year he was appointed Commander of the 5th Cruiser Squadron of the Home Fleet.
