A short piece of three-strand hemp rope.
A relic of Sir John Franklin's last expedition 1845-8. Piece of three stranded rope. According to the Royal Naval Museum 1913 Catalogue, the item was found by McClintock's search expedition 1857-9, however McClintock does not include it on his list of items brought back from the Arctic. It was presented to the Royal Naval Museum by Lady Franklin's niece, Sophia Cracroft in 1892 and is possibly part of the material collected on Beechey Island by E.A. Inglefield.
