St Jean d'Acre Medal, Syrian War 1840
Awarded to Adm Sir Robert Stopford. Obverse: The Sultan's cypher in Arabic, surrounded by a laurel wreath. Reverse: A fort flying the Turkish flag, above, six stars, inscription below in Arabic "1256" (1840) "The country of Syria and the fortress of Acre". Set in a border of diamonds. Suspended from an ornamental gold bar and crimson ribbon edged with white fitted with a buckle and pin. Awarded by the Sultan of Turkey in gold and silver to officers and in bronze to men.
