St Jean d'Acre Medal, Syrian War 1840

Awarded to Vice-Adm James John Stopford. Obverse: The Sultan's cypher in Arabic, surrounded by a laurel wreath. Reverse: A fort flying the Turkish flag, above, six stars, inscription below in Arabic "1256" (1840) "The country of Syria and the fortress of Acre". Suspended from a ring and crimson ribbon edged with white. Awarded by the Sultan of Turkey in gold and silver to officers and in bronze to men.
