Farewell to old 'Implacable'
Drawn aboard HMS 'Finisterre', December 1949. Depicts Admiral of the Fleet Sir Algernon Willis, his French counterpart, and another on the bridge observing the operation, which saw 'Implacable' (ex-'Duguay-Trouin') the last 74 gun ship and only French survivor of Trafalgar towed from Portsmouth to the Oxers Deep an scuttled with explosives, as beyond saving in the post-war situation. Also shows 'Implacable' under tow with the French tricoleur and white ensign at her stern. Framed with wood from 'Implacable'.
