Royal coat of arms (British Hanoverian, 1801-16)
Carved and gold-painted royal arms from HMY 'Royal Sovereign' (1804). Carved and gilded version of the Hanoverian Royal arms in use 1801-16 with lion and unicorn supporters, a rose and thistle below and the motto 'DIEU ET MON DROIT'. The arms of Hanover have an Elector's cap above, this was replaced with a crown when Hanover became a kingdom in 1816. The carving is mounted on a red backing board in a wooden frame.
