The Battle of Copenhagen, 2 April 1801
In the left foreground is the 'Agamemnon', which was to have followed the 'Egdon' [?Egmont] into action, but was unable to weather the southern point of the Middle Ground shoal. The letterpress of the coloured aquatints (by Bluck, published by Ackermann, 1801-02) made from this watercolour and a variant (also NMM?) of PAJ2304 show that Pocock used drawings made on the spot by Robinson Kittoe, secretary to Rear-Admiral Sir Thomas Graves in the 'Defiance'. He acknowledged this himself in another Copenhagen drawing inscription. Signed and dated by the artist, lower left. Exhibited: NMM Pocock exhib. (1975), no. 25. [PvdM 11/08]
