Button
A relic of Sir John Franklin's last expedition 1845-48. Two shell buttons found at Crozier's camp near Ross Cairn, Point Victory, King William Island on 11 July 1879 by the Schwatka Search Expedition 1878-79. This was the point where the crews of 'Erebus' and 'Terror' landed after abandoning their ships. Schwatka having already passed this site, made a more thorough search during his return journey when the snow had melted. These are shirt buttons and one still has a piece of shirt attached.
