Boat's thimble
A relic of Sir John Franklin's last expedition 1845-48. A boat's thimble, found in an abandoned boat at Erebus Bay, King William Island by the Schwatka Search Expedition 1878-79. An iron ring, grooved on the outer edge to receive a rope, spiced to form an eye. The markings on the boat's stem indicate it was the same one found by McClintock. During the intervening years the Inuit had broken it up.
