A view across the harbour at Mevagissey, Cornwall

An image showing 'G3483;Like Looe and Polperro, Mevagissey was the home of a fishing fleet employed in driftnet and line fishing. In 1895, Mevagissey is said to have become the first place to have electric street lighting, the new power station being powered entirely by pilchard oil. Today tourism, rather than fishing, is the dominant industry in the village.'

Looking south across the inner harbour with the RNLI lifeboat house on the left and the quay projecting from Middle Wharf on the right. The fishing vessels including the Fowey-registered Britannia (FY728), FY99 and FY3 are moored alongside the quay. Polkirt Hill is in the background with FY82 and FY120 anchored in the corner of the harbour below.
