Helios (1992); Cargo vessel; Gas carrier; Liquefied Petroleum Gas Carrier
Scale: 1:100. The model shows a remarkable vessel, with a complicated, asymmetrical deck layout more akin to a petrochemical plant on dry land. The model also conveys just how large these ships are. High above the deck, emblazoned across the whole width of the superstructure, we can see the sign ‘no smoking’. At this scale the lettering would be almost two metres in height.
Built by Kvaerner Govan Ltd., Glasgow, for Helge Shipping, Isle of Man, ‘Helios’ (1992) is one of four identical liquefied gas carriers. Its overall length is 205 metres, and its cruising speed is a leisurely 16 knots.
