Port Tack, 'Olivebank'

Muncaster was the son of the landscape painter Oliver Hall, but changed his name to an old family one to avoid confusion with his father. In the 1920s he made several voyages as a deck hand including one in the 'Olivebank' in which he rounded Cape Horn. He later wrote a book about this voyage, 'Rolling round the Horn' (1933), for which this watercolour may originally have been intended as an illustration.
