The steamer 'Pickwick'
Like John Everett, John Fraser's paintings and drawings are very much those of a seaman. He sailed to America in 1885 and travelled widely during the next twenty years. This atmospheric watercolour, full of reflected light, may be described as a portrait of the 'Pickwick'. It is very similar to some of the work of W.L. Wyllie, Fraser's contemporary, whose work he would have seen.
