Scale: 1:12. A full hull plank on frame model of a clinker-built Deal galley (circa 1900). The model is fully equipped and rigged, together with beach launching equipment. At this scale, this model depicts a galley measuring 31 feet in length by 6 feet in the beam. Rigged with a single mast, yard, and lug sail, it is complete with collapsible fisherman’s anchor, five oars, bailer and a cooking pan.
These light and fast boats were used to service ships on the Downs. With the anchorage off the Kentish coast, they carried pilots, passengers and mail.
