Rescued from the 'Endurance' library following the abandonment of the ship during Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition. Acquired with the effects of Dr Alexander Hepburne Macklin (1889-1967), surgeon on Shackleton's last two expeditions.
