Obverse: Centre, a female figure, laureate, the cross of Savoy on her mantle. Behind her, two of Garibaldi's 'red shirts', one kissing her hand, the other waving his hat. A kneeling figure in the foreground holds a banner (left). To the right, troops, a horseman and a donkey cart. Reverse: Sprays of palm and laurel tied with a ribbon inscribed 'INTER ARMA CHARITAS'. Above, a crowned eagle, wings outspread, perches on a cartouche bearing the arms of Savoy. Legend: 'AI BENEMERITI DELLA CROCE ROSSA ITALIANA.' In the centre an inscription (incuse) with a star above 'DITTA WILLIAM DENNY E BROTHERS LTD DUMBARTON.'
