Punch and Judy puppet: Pretty Polly
A glove puppet, part of a Punch and Judy set belonging to puppeteer Peter Butchard (1909-2009). Probably Pretty Polly, a character Punch takes up with after killing his wife Judy. The figure has no hands, a painted wooden head with promanent eyes with pronounced eyelashes, long yellow wool hair tied behind. She wears a pink hat. Her dress has a pointed yellow bodice, pleated ruffle cuffs and blue skirt with paniers - the fabric has pink flowers and gold metallic threads. The body of the puppet is hand sewn, interfaced with a green sateen lining. the head is attached by steel tacks to the body.
