Musket
Musket. The stock, possibly made of walnut, is fitted with a brass butt plate, trigger guard, sideplate, fore-end cap and ramrod holder. Two iron sling loops are also fitted - one at the fore-end of the barrel and the other in front of the trigger guard. Iron ramrod pipe is fitted under the barrel. The lock is a sidelock percussion. The barrel is of circular external section, and is smoothbore. Fitted with blade foresight and U shaped rearsight. The calibre is 0.75in. Inscribed on the lockplate is a crown over 'VR TOWER' '1840'. Inscribed on the butt is the number '6' over '54 MA [Museum of Artillery] 914'.
