Abolitionist seal
Abolitionist seal. The seal is moulded with 'Am I not a man and a brother'. The use of abolitionist imagery on a seal not only indicated the sender's views, but also brought the cause to the attention of the recipient and those carrying the letter. Such devices were, therefore, part of a broad and sophisticated range of abolitionist propaganda that crossed media, class, gender and geography. Part of the Michael Graham-Stewart slavery collection.
