Abolitionist seal

Abolitionist seal of brass mounted basalt, moulded with 'Am I not a woman and a sister?' The kneeling African figure is derived from Wedgwood’s famous plaque, which became one of the most ubiquitous images of the abolition campaign. The use of a female figure reflects the importance of women in the campaign. Part of Michael Graham-Stewart slavery collection.
