Captain John Andrews
Miniature of Captain John Andrews done on ivory and glued onto pink paper. An inscription has been written below the miniature: 'Captain John Andrews (my mother's brother) perished in that abominably horrid traffic The Slave Trade, his adventures, which were too revolting to be repeated, exhibit (the) trade in colours truly infernal. He & his father were gallant officers in the royal navy - my grandfather fell while fighting his country's battle - commander of the Asia of 74 guns.' Six small ivory panels painted with various tropical birds have been glued onto the reverse of this paper. Part of the Michael Graham-Stewart slavery collection.
