The Slaver 'Campdeadore'
Watercolour entitled 'The Slaver Campdeadore'. It is inscribed: 'The Spanish Brig Campdeadore of 12 guns and 50 Men laden slaves from Old Calabar bound to the Savannah, taken by HMS L'Aigle in the Gulf of Florida, after a smart chase'. On the reverse is an engraving of the Royal Academy, Gosport.
Captain James Burney was appointed to the HMS 'L'Aigle' on 17 November 1814 under Captain Sir John Louis in the West Indies. Burney's next posting was to HMS 'Fowey' on 25 August 1815.
