The 'Slave-Market' Church at Mkunazini

A pencil drawing of Zanzibar monogrammed with the artist's initials, 'C.D.M.T'. and an inscription: 'The 'Slave-Market' Church and the Mission Infirmary at Mkunazini in the town of Zanzibar. Taken from Ngambo, a suburb the other side of the creek, at low water.' There is a further inscription below: 'Christchurch Cathedral on the site of the Slave Market, the High Altar is on the spot where the whipping post stood'. An inscription on the reverse reads: 'Zanzibar from the suburb across the creek called 'Ng'ambo' (The other side) Slavemarket Church, & Mission House (The Infirmary of the Mission), immediately on its left - When the tide is out as in the drawing people are always passing to & fro as represented - Native huts in foreground'.
