Come La Trovate ['How do you find her?']
Below the image is a caption: 'Al Nobile Signor Benedetto Estense, Signor Marchese Selvatico.' See ZBA2732 for a pen and wash version, and ZBA2436. This was originally dated to about 1840 but Sicard died in 1825 and a related subject (see ZBA2436) was engraved in 1803. The present image may be of a black eunuch presenting an enslaved girl to his master's inspection if the title is read as a question: it also just translates as 'as you find her'. Sicard was a French artist, born in Avignon, and also known as Sicardi - as inscribed on this Italian print. Part of the Michael Graham-Stewart slavery collection.
