Zebehr, Slavery and the Soudan
A front page article titled, 'Zebehr, Slavery and the Soudan', with two engraved portraits of 'The Mahdi' and 'Zebher Pasha', both after Montbard and taken from a portrait lent by Mr. Egmont Hake. On the reverse is an engraving titled 'Convoy of Slaves in the Sudan.' The article was published in 'The London Illustrated News', 10 May, 1884.
Alfred Egmont Hake (1849–1916) was the biographer of General Charles Gordon (1833–85), who was killed defending Khartoum against the forces of the Mahdi.
