Caricature of a black servant in exaggerated footman’s livery, which is entitled 'Sketches of Character - Footman - pl. 9', above the image. The satire is as much, if not more, aimed at the pretensions of his employers as at the man himself – a late example of a much earlier fashion for black servants.
