There is text above and below the image. On the reverse there is a smaller image titled: 'Track of the Slaves'.
James William Buel (1849-1920) published his Heroes of the Dark Continent, and how Stanley found Emin Pasha in various editions across North America in 1889–90. The book, which deals with European exploration of Africa, has over 500 line illustrations, many of them quite shockingly graphic depictions of the appalling brutality of the East and Central African slave trade.
