The year of release is at hand

Print of slave family kneeling in front of the name ‘Wilberforce’ carved on a rock face. Next to them lie broken chains, and a scroll on which is written ‘Emancipation’ and the names of Clarkson, Suffield and Buxton.

Edward Harbord, the 3rd Baron Suffield (1781-1835), sat in the House of Lords, where, from 1822, he persistently and almost single-handedly advocated the abolition of slavery.
