Medal commemorating the Abolition of slavery
The obverse of the medal depicts an African standing holding broken chains in his raised arms. The legend reads: 'THIS IS THE LORDS DOING; IT IS MARVELLOUS IN OUR EYES. PSALM 118 v. 23'. The exergue reads: 'JUBILEE AUG. 1 1834'. On the reverse is the iInscription: 'IN COMMEMORATION OF THE EXTINCTION OF COLONIAL SLAVERY THROUGHOUT THE BRITISH DOMINIONS IN THE REIGN OF WILLIAM THE IV. AUG. 1, 1834'.
