Engraved coin, the 'Amacree'
On the obverse of the engraved token is a depiction of the port broadside view of the slave ship 'Amacree' in full sail. It has the legend: 'Success to the Amacree'. On the reverse is the inscription 'John Cread LIVERPOOL 1788'. Inscribed around the rim: 'ON DEMAND IN LONDON LIVERPOOL OR ANGLESEY'.
The 'Amacree' was built in 1788, and registered as a trader between Liverpool and ports in West Africa, that and could carry up to 363 slaves. In ten voyages, it carried nearly 3200 slaves from ports in West Africa, principally to the Caribbean island of Dominica.
