Dallmeyer - number unknown

This telescope arrived at the museum in 5 parts - the base, then 4 boxes of dimensions 2 boxes of (2 x 2 x 2.5ft), then one of the following (1 x 1.25 x 6ft), (2 x 3 x 4ft) Since arriving at the NMM this telescope has never been assembled.

This photoheliograph telescope will need to be assembled to be sure of these details, but according to earlier records this seems to have been one of 5 photoheliographs ordered by the Royal Observatory Greenwich for the 1874 Transit of Venus expeditions.

Telescope: 4 inches aperture, and 5ft focal length, able to form a primary image of the Sun a little over 1/2 inch diameter. This image would then have been enlarged by a secondary magnifier to 4 inch diameter on a 6 inch square camera plate. The length of the telescope should be 8ft.

Stand: It should sit on a German equatorial mounting and have a driving clock.
