Harpalyce (1940); Cargo vessel

Scale: 1:96. A model of SS Harpalyce made in wood with gold plated metal fittings and painted in realistic colours. The hull is painted brick red below the waterline and blue grey above with a narrow white stripe running the entire length of the hull at main deck level. Hull details include two anchors stowed at port and starboard bows, a companion ladder rigged on the starboard broadside, and a single four-bladed propeller. The bulwarks and superstructure are painted white and the surface decks are all painted grey. Forecastle fittings include two ventilators with blue painted inserts. The forward cargo deck has two hatches with a derrick mast between them. The bridge superstructure has three decks with the uppermost one having enclosed bridge wings and a pilot house. The single funnel is painted black with a broad white horizontal band with a black painted 'H' on it. On either side of the funnel are two derricks and there are two double ended lifeboats aft of them, painted white and stowed on chocks. There are two hatches on the aft cargo deck served by a derrick mast between them. The aft deck has two small transom sterned boats stowed on chocks, an awning frame, a secondary bridge, and an ensign staff. On port and starboard bows is inscribed, "Harpalyce" and on the stern: "Harpalyce London". Written on a label is, "SS "Harpalyce"/ Dimensions - 428'-0" B.P. on L.W.L. 58'-6" EX 38'-3" MLD. to S. DK./ Gross tonnage 5169.12 - Deadweight 9500 Tons/ Built for/ J. & C. Harrison Ltd - London/ By/ Bartram & Sons Ltd Sunderland 1940." The model is mounted on two turned pillar supports and displayed in its original mahogany framed display case with matching table.
