Celestial inflatable globe
Celestial inflatable globe. Stars are connected by lines, but there are no constellation figures. There is a labelled magnitude table above the title cartouche. The stars are marked by their Bayer notation. The Milky Way is labelled. A total of 19 stars and four star groups are named. The 48 Ptolemaic constellations and three of the non-Ptolemaic constellations are drawn. The 12 southern constellations of Plancius, eight of Hevelius and four of Lacaille are also drawn. The terrestrial counterpart of this globe was designed by the French cartographer Ambroise Tardieu (1788-184I). A copy of it is in the collection of the Staatlicher Mathematisch Physikalischer Salon, Dresden.
